How to install Project 2009 manually as a Sourcemod ========================== /!\ IMPORTANT: If you are on LINUX or STEAM DECK: Use Proton / Steam Play to play Project 2009, as we make use of server plugins which won't work otherwise, which will heavily break the game. READ THE "IMPORTANT NOTE FOR LINUX USERS" SECTION HERE FOR MORE INFO 0. Make sure you have PORTAL 2 installed on Steam. The mod will not work without PORTAL 2 1. Download p2009.zip from the "Sourcemod (manual install)" button on incrue.net/p2009 2. Extract the zip file 3. Find your Steam apps folder, then go to the sourcemods folder . For most people, it's in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods", but your path might be different if Steam is on a different drive or if you've changed your steam library path. 4. Copy the extracted p2009 folder into sourcemods. /!\ IMPORTANT: The gameinfo.txt should be DIRECTLY inside of the folder, like /steamapps/sourcemods/p2009/gameinfo.txt, NOT /sourcemods/p2009/p2009/gameinfo.txt 5. Restart Steam **FULLY**. Closing Steam doesn't actually close it, so go to Steam > Exit in the menu, or close it from the tray icon. 6. "Portal 2: Project 2009" should now appear in your Steam Library /!\ IMPORTANT: If you are on LINUX or STEAM DECK: Use Proton / Steam Play to play Project 2009, as we make use of server plugins which won't work otherwise, which will heavily break the game. READ THE "IMPORTANT NOTE FOR LINUX USERS" SECTION HERE FOR MORE INFO ====== IMPORTANT NOTE FOR LINUX / STEAM DECK USERS: Install to /home/YOURNAME/.steam/steam/steamapps/sourcemods/p2009, set Portal 2 to Proton Hotfix (or Proton 10 maybe?), and add this launch argument to Portal 2 (NOT to Project 2009): -game 'Z:\home\YOURNAME\.local\share\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\p2009' MAKE SURE BOTH ' SYMBOLS ARE THERE! TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE MESSED THAT UP SOMEHOW Then, launch Portal 2 instead of Project 2009, it should load into the mod anyway Thanks to @sharp14 Join the Portal Series Beta Research discord linked on incrue.net/p2009 if you continue to have issues on Linux. ====== IF FOR SOME REASON THE GAME DOESN'T SHOW UP IN YOUR STEAM LIBRARY After installing, add -game "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\p2009" to your **Portal 2** (not Project 2009) launch arguments, then run Portal 2 instead of Project 2009. MAKE SURE BOTH " SYMBOLS ARE THERE! ===== RANDOM CRASHING If you experience crashes after a few minutes: Unsubscribe from your Portal 2 workshop addons! You have too many, and the game tries to redownload all of them causing it to crash after a few minutes (this is a Portal 2 bug) Also: Your mods installed on Portal 2 get carried over to Project 2009, so be careful about that, it might be causing compatibility issues
